Networks: Children learn much from the interaction with their peers. They form social groups which are the basis
of their adult networks. Working alongside other students of a similar age lends much support to their
growth and development. It is expected that all school age children who attend the Caisley Communication
Consultancy will be placed in a small group of similar age. It is particularly important that they have
other students to communicate with and to. This builds their confidence and gives them a regular audience
to appreciate their work.
Small classes: In contrast to school classes, groups at the Consultancy have no more than 6 children. This means that they
have plenty of individual assistance. In some cases there is more than one tutor so the ratio of student to tutor
is very low.
Family participation: Every opportunity is taken to combine groups at parents' days giving the students a wider audience. Positive
interaction is encouraged with the children and the family members who attend these afternoons.
Annual concert: in a theatre environment when students are exposed to a new performing venue and
an audience of a far wider age range.
Annual concert 2008:
Personal coaching: There certainly is opportunity for a child to have a private half hour lesson and in some special cases this is
the very best means of learning, but it is expected that the private students will participate in the parents'
afternoons and certainly in the annual concert. Communication skills can only be learned in a group and part
of the fun is watching other children presenting their various items and then joining in for the drama games.
Qualifications: The Speech New Zealand examinations encourage students to sit in groups so that they too are growing accustomed to
presenting their work to a variety of people rather than to one examiner.
Studio philosophy: of the Caisley Communication Consultancy is to increase self-confidence and self-worth so that
students are proud of who they are and what they can present.
